The San Antonio area is getting a new spot for chicken fingers, fries and Texas toast – and no, it’s not another Raising Cane’s.
Layne’s Chicken Fingers is opening two new restaurants in San Antonio and one in New Braunfels, according to its website and state construction filings. The additions are part of the College Station-based chain’s expansion across the Lone Star State, which it announced in November.
At the time of the announcement, it was unclear where the chain would plant its flag in the San Antonio area. But it lists two Alamo City locations as “coming soon” on its website. One is on the South Side at 742 SW Military Drive and another is on the Northwest Side at 7249 Bandera Road.
Construction for the Bandera location is scheduled to finish at the end of August, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. It’s located just a mile up the road from a Raising Cane’s, setting up a potential chicken finger battle in the Leon Valley area.

The New Braunfels location will open at 2564 Loop 337 near New Braunfels High School, according to a filing. Construction will finish in November. It will cost more than $1 million to build the new restaurant from the ground up.
Layne’s is also planning a new joint in Seguin, with construction finishing in May 2026. Right now, the closest Layne’s to the Alamo City is in San Marcos.
Layne’s was founded in 1994, serving its deep-fried goodness to Texas A&M University students. It specializes in chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries and Texas toast – all with a secret sauce. It also has milkshakes, chicken sandwiches and grilled cheese.
It currently operates about 30 locations, including restaurants in Arkansas, Georgia, Ohio and Virginia. The chain’s website shows plans to open new restaurants in Austin, Brownsville, Lubbock and downtown Houston.
