Some of the most fun spots in the El Paso area take the winter off but don’t worry, there is plenty of fun to be had around here no matter what season it is.
Some of El Paso’s good times are seasonal. During winter, Western Playland and Wet ‘N Wild Waterworld shut down and horse racing at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino also stops for part of winter.
The Sunland Park race schedule pauses in early winter, (they’re off all summer too, from May – December), but the casino, the restaurant and their live entertainment is going year ’round.

The Borderland never stops when it comes to fun though, partly because we have very mild winters but also because we just love a good time. Here are a few things to do this winter.
Get Out And Enjoy It
El Paso WinterFest takes over Downtown El Paso from November 22nd – January 4th with ice skating, holiday decorations and a s***load of lights. Learn more here.
Tour The City
Go for a drive or, better yet, hop on your motorcycle. Thanks to the aforementioned “mild” winters, the roads are never too bad to be out on them. (Not weather – wise anyway. Their overall condition though …) One of my favorite routes is crisscrossing the Franklin mountains.
Ride The Tramway
Ok, you can’t do this one yet … the Wyler Aerial Tramway is still being worked on … but, (eventually), you’ll be able to once again enjoy a beautiful view of 2 countries and 3 states from almost 5,000 feet up. Click here for updates.
Plenty Of Indoor Fun
These places all offer fun, games, excitement and/or learning from warm, comfy, environments.
Go Get A Taste Of REALÂ Winter
Just 2 hours north of the 915, you’ll find Ruidoso and Cloudcroft. Enjoy winter sports like snow skiing, snow boarding and tubing along with ice skating and more including an awesome winter park.
