A San Antonio doctor shot while walking his dog early Wednesday near downtown is Jonathan “Jonny” Desposorio, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
Desposorio, 30, remains in critical condition, according to a spokesperson at Brooke Army Medical Center.
Desposorio is a second-year OB-GYN resident at UT Health San Antonio, according to his online biography. UT Health San Antonio declined to provide comment. His wife also declined to provide comment.
Officers were dispatched around 5:30 a.m. to the intersection of East Euclid Avenue and East Evergreen Street, near North St. Mary’s Street, for a report of shots being fired, San Antonio police said.
When officers arrived, they found him lying in the street with a single gunshot wound to the chest and no suspects in the area, police said.
The man, who lives in a condominium at the intersection, had been walking his dog as part of his usual morning routine before heading to work when the shooting occurred, police said.

Desposorio grew up in Katy, Texas,” according to a short biography on the UT Health website.
A Katy High School class of 2013 graduate, he received a Bachelor of Science in biology with minors in chemistry and philosophy from Dallas Baptist University in Dallas in 2018.
After graduation, he spent a year working for Bios Partners, a Fort Worth-based venture capital firm focused on early- and growth-stage biotechnology companies.
He completed his medical degree at UT Health San Antonio in 2024 and was married the same year.
In his free time, he enjoys “playing golf, playing chess, watching Formula 1, CrossFit, snowboarding, and spending time with his wife and mini-Bernedoodle, Scottie,” according to the website.
It remains unknown whether the shooter was in a vehicle or on foot. Officers are reviewing nearby surveillance footage as part of the investigation, police said. Homicide detectives are investigating.
San Antonio Council Member Sukh Kaur, who represents the District 1 area where the shooting occurred, told the Express-News she is in communication with San Antonio police as the investigation into the Wednesday morning shooting continues.
She said it was “a tragedy that a young man, who serves our community as a doctor, was shot.” She also praised the Tobin Hill resident who called 911 to report the gunfire, noting it may have helped save the victim’s life. She said the incident is “a painful reminder” of the need to address gun violence
“No one should feel unsafe in their own neighborhood,” she said.
