CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — New details after 3 kayakers had to be rescued near the Portland area after their time on the water did not go as planned.

The Corpus Christi Fire Department responded to the water rescue around 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the New Andrews Boat Launch off Highway 181 after the group was unable to make it back to shore on their own.

Officials say the kayakers were out on the water when conditions and circumstances left them unable to safely return the shore, prompting a call for help. Firefighters were dispatched quickly and worked to locate the group in the water.

Once on scene, crews were able to spot all 3 kayakers and move in for the rescue. Firefighters reached the individuals and helped bring them safely back without injury. Officials say the response went smoothly and emphasized the importance of quick action in preventing a more serious outcome.

Authorities confirm all 3 kayakers are okay following the incident. No injuries were reported.
