CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If there’s one lesson to be learned from the “Passion of the Christ,” it’s that you can’t keep a good thing down.
Despite early morning efforts to keep the production going, heavy rain forced organizers to cancel the show – a decision made only a handful of times throughout the production’s 84-year run.
Now, Passion Play director and coordinator Debra Scott-Brown says that the cast and crew have made plans to resurrect the show and give it a new life on Ascension Sunday, May 17.
The show will function just like it does every Easter: it will begin at sunrise (around 7 a.m.), take place at Cole Park Amphitheater, and have open-air seating for all to enjoy. Families are encouraged to bring their own blankets and seating, as well as their own snacks, beverages and SPF.
The reset show also opens up a renewed opportunity for the community to join the production as an actor or a volunteer.
Folks interested in joining the cast and crew are also invited to attend rehearsal on Sunday, May 3, from 2:30-5 p.m. People of all ages, builds, abilities and denominations are welcome to participate. There are no lines to memorize, and directions for movement will be given on rehearsal day. Drinks will also be provided, and organizers recommend actors and volunteers bring their own SPF.
