Chef Alex Paredes posted an Instagram video on Friday, April 24, explaining that Tacopolis has been closed as of late while he dealt with some health issues. He went on to say that Tacopolis would close permanently to make way for a new concept in the same space.

“We’re going to be shutting down Tacopolis as the taqueria, and we’re going to be opening a seafood restaurant here at the same spot,” Paredes said in the video. “It’s not really working for us right now. As you guys know, the prices are very, very high on meats.”

Tacopolis had its final run over the weekend, and soon, a seafood restaurant will open in its place with a menu of ceviches, aguachiles, tostadas and fish tacos. In the past, Paredes ran a concept called Fish Lonja that received a nod from the New York Times in 2021.

“Stay tuned. We’ll keep everybody posted about the new restaurant, the new menu and all that stuff,” Paredes said at the end of the Instagram video.

On Monday, April 27, the Tacopolis account shared an update on the name for the seafood restaurant that will sub in, sharing the new concept will be called El Fish Demon.

“‘Happy to introduce to you the new concept in Mariscos del golfo “El Fish Demon” bring in the best and fresh seafood from the Gulf of Mexico,” the account shared.
