“We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help,” Head Coach Joey McGuire said in a Texas Tech press release. “Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health.”
The university said it is “committed to supporting Brendan through his recovery process and to ensure his long-term health and well-being.” Texas Tech said it would have no further comment on Sorsby’s status.
Sorsby, a Lake Dallas product, was one of the top-ranked players in the transfer portal last winter after posting 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns last season at Cincinnati. He chose to sign with Texas Tech over an offer from LSU.
Sorsby also played at Indiana from 2022-23. According to ESPN’s reporting, Sorsby bet on Indiana football during the 2022 season, but only for the Hoosiers to win and not in any games in which Sorsby appeared. Sorsby only appeared in one game during the 2022 season.
