LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Museum at Texas Tech University will host its annual Dino Day event May 2, preceded by a special public lecture on the Megalodon.
Visiting paleontologist Robert W. Boessenecker will present “Requiem for a Giant: The Megalodon” at 6 p.m. Thursday. The talk will explore the rise and extinction of the giant prehistoric shark and new research about ancient ocean ecosystems.
Dino Day will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the museum, located at 3301 Fourth St.
Guests can meet paleontologists and research scientists, view live fossil excavation and preparation demonstrations, and learn how fossils go from discovery to museum display.
The event will feature trace fossil and “insect in amber” crafts, free planetarium shows, a dinosaur-themed scavenger hunt, touchable fossil replicas and real specimen displays. Scientists will give talks throughout the day.
Both events are free.
