WACO, Texas (KWTX) – When you’re picking a career or internship, you usually get a tour of the job. In aviation, Texas State Technical College is giving prospective students a chance to experience it firsthand — in the air.
The school launched discovery flights for prospective students this year, where students get the full feel of what training could look like: taxi, takeoff, time in the sky — and even a chance to take the controls with an instructor right beside them.
The route is about 20 miles, designed to show how the aircraft operates and what it’s like inside the cockpit.
“I think what surprised me the most was being a little nervous. I’ve always enjoyed being in aviation and watching planes and things like that but getting behind the cockpit was so much different than being in an airline plane. Being a little nervous caught me off guard, but being able to get more experience and continue as a student has helped that so much,” Student Pilot Landon Hood said.
The flights take off Fridays at noon.
