72-year-old woman hit, killed while chasing dog into a Plano roadway, police say

A woman died after she was hit while chasing her unrestrained dog across a major roadway in Plano, police said.

PLANO, Texas — A woman was killed after she was hit by a car while chasing her unrestrained dog into a roadway, police said.  

Officers responded to a crash around 7 p.m. on Monday, April 27, in the 3300 block of Parkwood Boulevard, according to a press release from the Plano Police Department. 

Investigators found that a pedestrian was struck by a car driving northbound on Parkwood Parkway, the release states. The pedestrian was chasing her unrestrained dog across the roadway away from a crosswalk when the front right of the vehicle hit the pedestrian, police said. 

Plano Fire Rescue responded to the scene and attempted to save the pedestrian’s life, but she was declared dead at the scene, the release states. 

The victim was later identified as 72-year-old Beverly Doak Grimes, police said. The loose dog was secured by Plano Animal Services, the release states. 

Police do not think speed or intoxication was a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
