CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Weber Rd and Gollihar RD Tuesday morning left an SUV on its side, with only minor injuries reported.
According to Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD), the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. when a gray passenger car exiting a Stripes gas station lot attempted to turn southbound onto Weber and failed to yield the right of way. The vehicle was then struck by another white SUV traveling westbound on Gollihar, causing the SUV to roll onto its side.
“The grey passenger car turned out of Stripes parking lot…and failed to yield the right of way the white car that was traveling westbound on Gollihar,” said CCPD Lt. Joshua Newman.
The driver believed to be at fault is expected to receive a citation for failure to yield the right of way.
Despite the severity of the crash, officers said those involved were fortunate. “Very minor injuries,” Newman said, noting the visible damage, including a shattered windshield on the overturned SUV.
The busy intersection saw temporary lane closure as crews responded, but officers worked to keep traffic moving. “It was a very fluid situation…we tried to keep it moving as freely as we could,” Newman said. Once first responders confirmed everyone was out of the vehicles and safe, crews focused on reopening lanes. The scene was cleared in less than an hour.
Police are reminding drivers to stay alert during busy morning commutes and to follow traffics laws to help prevent similar crashes.
