LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Los Hermanos Familia will hold its 2026 Adelante Awards Gala on Friday, May 1.
The Lubbock nonprofit focused on strengthening families and building community said the annual event recognizes men and youth in the Lubbock area for career achievement and community service.
“This recognition event showcases the many role models and achievements that exist in the community,” said Rosa Llanas, the 2025 Adelante Awards co-chair, in a statement.
Nominees span categories including medical, business and professional, first responder, education, military and veteran, church, media, civic and volunteer work, athletics, college young adult, corporate and legal, the organization said.
Among the nominees are Alejos Anaya, Benny Brito, Dr. Greg Hernandez, Dr. Victor Chavez, EJ Gauna, Eric Tijerina, Frank Davila, Gilbert Arredondo, Jerry Serrano, Joe Jimenez, Miguel Vasquez, Misael Gonzales and Ricardo Martinez.
Los Hermanos Familia said it will also give special recognition to Gilbert Flores for 24 years of service as a county commissioner. A lifetime achievement award will be presented to Sonny Garza, who the organization said worked at City Bank and has been active in the community.
The nonprofit said it will also recognize a volunteer or volunteers from the organization and a corporate contributor.
Award recipients will be announced at the Adelante Awards banquet at 6 p.m. May 1 at the Merket Alumni Center on the Texas Tech University campus, near 17th Street and University Avenue. Media will have a photo opportunity at the event.
Los Hermanos Familia was established in 2008 and became a nonprofit in June 2014. The organization began with its annual “Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing” event and has since added initiatives such as outdoor fitness equipment at Buddy Holly Lake, free access to the MyOn digital reading program for K-12 students, neighborhood little libraries, an annual bilingual financial literacy workshop and student scholarships.
