At least two people were hospitalized after dangerous thunderstorms dropped very large hail and spawned tornado warnings as spring storms pushed through North Texas on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials in Mineral Wells confirmed that at least two people were hurt and taken to the hospital to be evaluated for non-critical injuries. Several others were treated for minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
The Mineral Wells Police Department is asking residents to stay home and avoid traveling to the northeast part of the city near Country Club Estates and Lake Mineral Wells State Park, where several buildings were damaged or destroyed.
An official with Palo Pinto County ESD No. 1 confirmed some of the structures were completely down. It’s not immediately clear if the buildings were residences, businesses or outbuildings.
Police Chief Tim Denison said the county judges in Palo Pinto and Parker counties are declaring disasters and will implement a curfew Tuesday night from about 10 p.m. until sunrise.
The cafeteria at Mineral Wells High School has been opened for anyone who needs assistance. The American Red Cross is on site to assist in the recovery.
