Mavs’ Anthony Davis exits game after awkward landing, is questionable to return vs. Pacers

More bad luck and bad timing for the Dallas Mavericks.

Shortly into Wednesday night’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers, Mavs forward Anthony Davis exited the game and headed back into the Dallas locker room after appearing to land awkwardly after a jumpshot.

Midway through the first quarter Davis drove through the lane and then hoisted a shot over Pacers’ defender Tony Bradley. It appeared harmless at first, though Davis was limping as he headed back up the court and was substituted out shortly after. Davis may have landed on the foot of Bradley when coming down from his jumper.

Mavericks

Davis, who was listed as probable on the Mavericks’ injury report prior to the game with bilateral Achilles tendinopathy, could be seen grabbing at the back of his ankle while leaning against the scorers table before he eventually made his way back to the locker room with Mavericks training staff.

An update from the Mavericks after the injury listed Davis as questionable to return to action against the Pacers with what the team is calling lower leg soreness. Dwight Powell is likely the fill-in for Davis for the remainder of the night.

It couldn’t be worse timing for the Mavericks, who, aside from being off to a 1-3 start this season, are already dealing with injuries to their two centers, Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford. For a team built around its big, losing Davis for an extended period would be another brutal blow.
