Sandwich rolled to a 10-0 win over Plano in six innings in Tuesday’s high school varsity softball action, as Jillian Freemon led the Indians with three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs, while Abigail Johnson, Kayden Corneils and Audryna Brain each added two hits. Johnson doubled and both she and Kendal Petre drove in two runs in the victory, while Freemon also earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, striking out four and walking one while allowing just one hit — a Chesney Schimandle single — over six innings.
Oswego defeated Minooka 14-6 behind three home runs from Jaelynn Anthony, who tied the game with a two-run homer in the fifth inning and broke it open with a grand slam in the sixth, setting the Oswego High School career home run record in the process. Anthony finished with four hits and seven RBIs and also earned the win in relief with six strikeouts, while Adalynn Fugitt added three hits, including a home run and two doubles, with three RBIs and four runs scored.
Aurora Central Catholic shut out Trinity 10-0 in five innings as McKayla Edwards had three hits, including a double, and Grace Grunloh, Morgan Vaghy, Corina Maratea and Autumn Croegaert each added two hits. Vaghy tripled and drove in a run, Maratea homered and drove in three runs, and Croegaert hit two triples and knocked in two runs, while Maratea pitched a no-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Serena edged Somonauk/Leland 2-0 as Parker Twait had three hits, including a single and two doubles, and both Twait and Cassie Walsh drove in runs. Walsh pitched a complete-game three-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts, while Brooke Bahrey, Mackenna McMahan and Kennedy Barshinger each singled for Somonauk/Leland. Brielle Deacon took the loss despite a complete game, allowing two earned runs on six hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
Kaneland fell 5-4 to Morris as Ansley Ruh and Brynn Woods each had two hits, with Ruh doubling and scoring twice, while Woods took the loss after allowing five runs (two earned) on 11 hits with three walks and 11 strikeouts.
Indian Creek lost 11-1 to DeKalb in six innings as Makenna Barshinger had two hits, including a double, and Ashley Leifheit added a hit, while McKenzie Greer drove in Barshinger for the lone run. Taylor Hulmes took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings.
Yorkville shut out Oswego East 7-0 as Bella Rosauer, Ellie Fox and Kenzie Mendez each had two hits, with Rosauer driving in a run, Fox doubling and scoring once, and Mendez scoring twice. Rosauer pitched a complete-game three-hitter with four strikeouts, while Katie Maday had two hits for Oswego East.
Earlville defeated Newark 5-3 as Addie Scherer had two hits, including a home run, with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Riley Kelly added two hits, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored. Scherer also earned the win with a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. For Newark, Brooklyn Wallin, Zoey Carlson and Adelaide Johnson each had two hits, while Wallin, Johnson and Bailey Schutter each drove in a run, and the Norsemen totaled five doubles, including two by Johnson and one each from Carlson, Schutter and Cayla Pottinger.
