LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Channel the Beatles with me for a moment and sing “Here comes the rain – doo do doo do doo”. That’s right, we’ve got a widespread, gentle and soaking rain event setting up over the next couple of days as we close out April and kick off May!
TONIGHT
Cool and cloudy, overnight lows will drop down into the mid 40s for most with a pretty persistent cloud deck keeping us relatively consistent overnight.

THURSDAY

Temperatures will fall quite a bit more as we move into the start of May Friday before a rebound is expected over the weekend and next week(Dylan Smith)
As the day progresses into the evening and overnight hours, coverage and intensity of the rain will increase for most of the area.
The best news: I don’t anticipate any severe weather with this entire rain event.

We could see some localized flooding in areas that receive heavier downpours for extended periods, but that’s about as severe as we’re going to get for the South Plains.

THURSDAY NIGHT
Widespread rain showers will continue into the overnight hours Thursday night.
Widespread light to moderate, and at times heavy, rainfall is expected over the next 48 hours, beginning Thursday afternoon(Dylan Smith)
Grab the rain gear and a jacket if you’re heading out as temperatures will stay in the 40s and 50s overnight.
FRIDAY
Another rain gear/sweater day, I’m anticipating widespread, on and off showers throughout most of the day Friday.
Temperatures will fall quite a bit more as we move into the start of May Friday before a rebound is expected over the weekend and next week(Dylan Smith)
This will keep temperatures very subdued, mostly in low 50s and even upper 40s for Friday afternoon.
WEEKEND WEATHER OUTLOOK
Rain will wrap up by Saturday morning for the majority, with temperatures climbing quickly back into the 60s and 70s for Saturday and Sunday, respectively. It’ll be a pleasant weekend followed by more warming temperatures as we move into next week.
