San Antonians have an opportunity to win free Tex-Mex for a year from one of the city’s most beloved chains.
Las Palapas announced the stakes in a Tuesday, April 28, Instagram post honoring the historic Callaghan location, which was damaged after a vehicle plowed into it on the morning of March 13. In the post, the chain wrote, “A car through the front doors couldn’t stop us. We didn’t close that day. We didn’t close the next day. We kept the kitchen running and the tacos going out like nothing happened. That’s Callaghan. That’s Las Palapas.”
The location has been closed since April 12 “to give one of our oldest stores the remodel she’s earned,” the post reads. However, the chain, which got its start in 1981, is calling on San Antonians to throw back to Callaghan’s early days.
“Dig through your camera rolls, your photo albums, your shoeboxes in the closet,” the chain wrote. “We want your Las Palapas Callaghan memories. Birthday parties. Graduation dinners. First dates. Kids who are now taller than you. Saturday morning breakfast runs when the line was out the door. Whatever it is, we want to see it.”
Submissions — open until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 — can be sent to the restaurant via direct message, commented under the giveaway post, or posted to your own feed using #CallaghanThrowback and tagging @LasPalapas. To enter, you’ll need to be a Texas resident at least 18 years old and an LP Club member, which is free to sign up for if you aren’t already.
One winner will receive free Las Palapas for a year through 52 weeks of $10 gift cards, and four others will each get a $200 Las Palapas gift card. The winners will be drawn at random, according to the post.
As for when the popular location will reopen, a spokesperson for the restaurant previously told MySA they plan to begin serving the city again on May 15.
