The USC Trojans battle the Texas A&M Corpus-Christi Islanders on Friday morning in the first round of the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships. The tournament will take place over three days at Gulf Place in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The Trojans, who are the fourth seed, come into the tournament 28-11 and are looking to bounce back from a loss to Texas in the MPSF Championship. It was the second loss in three matches for the Trojans, as they fell to the Longhorns 3-2. It was the third time they played the Longhorns this season, and each time they lost 3-2. It has been a tough end to the season for the Trojans, as they have lost five of their last seven matches. All of those losses have come against teams in the tournament, though.

The Islanders come into the tournament 23-9 on the season and are on a five-match winning streak. They were a perfect 6-0 in conference play and swept through the Southland Conference Championship. They beat Houston Christian twice and Southeastern by the same 3-0 score.
The Islanders played five matches against ranked opponents and they won just one of them this season. That lone win came back on Feb. 20 against No. 20 Tulane.
