LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The final day of April will stay dry for most areas on the South Plains. Tonight, however, a significant weather system is moving in that will bring widespread rain to the region, especially overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

High temperatures Thursday will struggle to reach the low 60s as cloud cover keeps the region cool.

Shower chances Thursday will be selective, meaning most areas should stay dry through the day. Light rain showers are possible this morning, but the heaviest rain won’t arrive until late tonight.
KCBD(KCBD)Rain arrives overnight and Friday
The pattern changes dramatically overnight. A large swath of showers will move into the region late Thursday night and continue through Friday morning, with some locally heavy rainfall at times.

The southern South Plains are looking at the best chance for heavier rainfall, with amounts between 1 to 1.5 inches most likely. The northeastern portion of the viewing area is expected to see less favorable conditions for heavier rain.
Much cooler Friday
Temperatures will take a significant drop Friday as the rain moves through. Highs Friday are expected to be in the 40s and 50s, making it the coolest day of this stretch.

Cloud cover will persist through Friday with sufficient rainfall, keeping temperatures well below normal for late April.
