SAN ANTONIO – Nearly 100 firefighters battled a massive 2-alarm fire at a Northeast Side business on Wednesday.
The fire started around 11:30 a.m. at Apple Moving Company off Webbles Drive near Walzem Road.
San Antonio Fire Department spokesperson Joe Arrington said early indications are that cardboard was burning inside and underneath some trailers.
“Because of the gusty winds, the fire was spreading pretty quickly, so they upgraded it to a second alarm response just to ensure we had enough resources here on scene,” said Arrington.
Arrington said due to their aggressive response of over 100 firefighters on scene, they were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby homes. He said four or five trailers were destroyed by the fire, along with cardboard, wooden pallets and storage boxes.
