Food & Wine released its findings earlier this month, praising the U.S.’ culinary scene and standout restaurants that are marrying a range of cultural cuisines and influences into their dishes, including featured offerings from Guadalajara, Jamaica, southern Thailand and South India. The Top 10 eateries in America also ranged from upper-scale, Michelin-starred dining experiences to neighborhood outposts.
Canje, a Caribbean restaurant in East Austin, took home bronze after Food & Wine named it the No. 3 best in the country. Helmed by chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph — who earned praise as a 2025 James Beard outstanding chef finalist — Joseph blends his Guyanese background with a variety of flavor palates. Some must-try dishes heralded by Food & Wine included Canje’s pepper fish, West Indian curry and a pepperpot with cassava root syrup as its cornerstone.
