FRISCO — Before the first rookie minicamp practice on Friday the Cowboys announced five of their six draft picks signed contracts.
Safety Caleb Downs, a first-round pick, signed a four-year deal worth $28.9 million with $17.515 million guaranteed. Downs was the 11th overall pick of the draft.
Lawrence participated in the rookie minicamp.
In the last two years, some second-round draft picks secured fully guaranteed contracts in similar fashion to the first-rounders.
The Cowboys are without a second-round pick, and the possibility of third-round picks getting fully guaranteed deals or more of a percentage of their contracts guaranteed is something the NFLPA has sought for years.
All the draft picks signed four-year deals.
Downs, as is the case with first-rounders, has the ability to earn a fifth-year option picked up for the 2030 season. The decision on that won’t be decided until after he’s completed three NFL seasons.
