PLANO, Texas – A three-vehicle crash in Plano involving an oil tanker has led to environmental crews working to stop spillage into White Rock Creek.
What we know
The crash happened on Friday afternoon near the intersection of Spring Creek Parkway and Windhaven Parkway, on the western side of the city.
The City of Plano says preliminary reports indicated a driver of a white Mazda ran a red light and was struck on the passenger side by an oil tanker.
The impact of the crash pushed the Mazda into a black sedan, causing significant damage. The oil tanker overturned after the crash, blocking northbound traffic.
The driver of the oil tanker was trapped and extracted from the truck by Plano Fire-Rescue. All three drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
People were urged to avoid the area while a hazmat crew worked to clean up the crude oil on the roadway and prevent it from going down the storm drain that leads to White Rock Creek.
Oil from the tanker spilled into a nearby storm drain that leads to White Rock Creek, and hazmat crews were deployed to stop the spillage.
The City of Plano says it continues to assess the creek and any environmental effects from the spillage while working on cleanup efforts.
