Auburn baseball won its fifth straight conference series after sweeping Texas A&M Saturday afternoon in College Station.
This weekend marks the first time the Tigers have won the first two game against a top-10 team on the road since winning the series at No. 2 South Carolina in 2023.
Auburn’s series with the Aggies was postponed a day due to inclement weather on Friday. Auburn and Texas A&M played a double header on Saturday and will wrap up the series on Sunday.
Here’s a recap of Auburn’s SEC Road series with Texas A&M:
Back-to-back run-rule wins in game one
Auburn earned its second straight run-rule victory in the first game against Texas A&M, as the Tigers dominated the Aggies 18-5 behind three different home runs.
In the top of the second inning, Auburn brought in six total runs. Chase Fralick and Ethin Bingaman both connected-on homers at the top of the fourth to extend Auburn’s lead to 11-3.
Brandon McCraine’s top of the seventh three-run homer was the icing on the cake for the Aggies. Auburn defeated Oklahoma last weekend and Texas A&M by a combined score of 32-9 in back-to-back games.
Auburn’s 18 runs were also a season high, and its 19 hits were one shy of a season high.
Chase Fralick continues his strong performance at bat in game two
It did not take Auburn long to strike against the Aggies in game two. Chase Fralick’s two-run homer in the top of the first inning made him the first Auburn player to hit one in five straight games since 1985.
In the top of the third, Fralick bombed another home run to extend Auburn’s lead to 3-0.
“This day was incredible. We were fully rested. We haven’t played since Sunday. Six days off is huge, especially at this point in the season, and we took it like we wanted to come out here and show what this team is capable of,” Fralick said postgame.
Bub Terrell joined the home run party with a two-run homer at the top of the third, extending Auburn’s lead to 5-0 early on. Texas A&M eventually cut its deficit to one run. However, Auburn won game two 5-4 to clinch the series.
On the mound, Andreas Alvarez finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts in game one. Jake Marciano and Jackson Sanders combined for 27 outs in game two.
“It’s just a mark of three guys pitched today in a doubleheader on the road against a top-10 team and got it done,” head coach Butch Thompson said postgame. “Really good pitching that we have confidence and faith in held up. I know it’s an offensive day to talk about, and it should be, but nonetheless our pitchers are absolutely the reason we won two.”
