A Legacy of Educational Excellence High School teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.
Christopher Wooten, a social studies teacher and tennis coach at the North East ISD campus, was arrested Friday and charged with improper relationship between an educator and student, a second-degree felony, court records show. A judge set his bail at $40,000.
Wooten, 48, was placed on administrative leave Wednesday pending an investigation after the allegations surfaced, but he resigned Thursday, an NEISD spokesperson confirmed. He had worked for the district for eight years.
School staff called NEISD police Wednesday after another student reported seeing the girl get out of Wooten’s vehicle during school hours, an affidavit supporting Wooten’s arrest states.
Wooten initially told district police that he would take the girl to get food off campus during school hours. He would also let her take his vehicle during school hours.
Police said the girl did not immediately disclose a sexual relationship with Wooten and said she had deleted text messages they exchanged.

Wooten told police that he had messaged the girl about his marriage, school and tennis.
When Wooten spoke with the school district’s human resources Thursday, he admitted he had sex with the girl on four separate occasions since April 10, the affidavit states.
He told San Antonio police the same, adding that they had gone to a parking garage down the street from the school.
The student later gave police a second statement, saying Wooten had driven her to the garage that week, as well as one week earlier.
