EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 39-year-old woman, who was later identified as the principal of IDEA Edgemere Academy and College Prep, was arrested for DWI last month in far East El Paso, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by KTSM 9 News.
Nubia Lizette Salinas was arrested on Saturday, April 18 and charged with DWI. She was released the same day, according to jail records.

At around 2 a.m. on Saturday, a deputy with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling the 2100 block of North Zaragoza Road when he saw a vehicle traveling southbound failing to stay in a single lane, according to court documents.
Additionally, the deputy said that the vehicle hit the center divider twice and overcorrected the vehicle when it almost crashed into another vehicle, “making traveling unsafe.”
In the affidavit, the deputy followed the vehicle to the intersection of North Zaragoza and Sun Fire Boulevard, where the vehicle disregarded a red light and turned left, while the red arrow was on. The deputy then conducted a traffic stop and turned on the emergency lights.
The traffic stop was conducted behind an Alon gas station, located at 2100 N. Zaragoza Rd. The deputy said he then made contact with the driver, who was identified as Salinas.
The deputy noted that Salinas had “glossy bloodshot eyes and slurred speech,” according to court records. It was also noted by the deputy that they detected a “strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath and/or person.”
Salinas told the deputy that prior to the traffic stop, she was drinking at a bar.
According to court documents, Salinas agreed to do a field sobriety test, but later refused to do the tests.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., the deputy took Salinas to the East Montana Patrol Station and she refused to provide a specimen of her breath and blood. It was noted in the arrest affidavit that a search warrant will be issued to obtain a blood sample.
Salinas is listed on IDEA Edgemere Academy and College Prep’s website as the principal.
KTSM 9 News has reached out to the school on the situation and gave the following statement:
“IDEA Edgemere is aware of an arrest made off-campus involving a staff member. As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment further. All questions should be directed to the local law enforcement.”
