Lubbock Metro solves 2009 east Lubbock murder

  • October 30, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit says it has brought closure to the family of Christopher Perez, who was murdered at a bar in East Lubbock in 2009.

Back on July 31, 2009, Lubbock Police were initially called to Grace Medical Center at 1:58 a.m.

LPD says, upon arrival, officers located Perez, who died from multiple stab wounds suffered at a bar in the 500 block of East 34th Street.

At the beginning of the investigation, officers received information leading to their search for a Hispanic male, between the ages of 35 and 45-years-old, as the suspect.

According to the news release, the investigation also led to the collection of DNA evidence by LPD’s Forensics Unit, which was sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety Lab, leading to a suspect profile being entered into the Federal Bureau of Investigations Combined DNA Index System, also known as CODIS.

Ultimately, a DNA hit of the suspect profile was confirmed to match Mexican national, Javier Pando, 52.

While following up on additional leads, Metro investigators were able to determine Pando died in Mexico prior to the conclusion of the case.

The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit remains committed to investigating all homicides that occur in Lubbock County and are hopeful the solving of this murder will bring Perez’s family some peace in the years to come.
