EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A new fire station aimed at boosting emergency response in far East El Paso officially opened on Tuesday.

To commemorate the opening of the new facility, the City of El Paso hosted a ceremony for Fire Station No. 38 at 14301-B Pebble Hills Blvd. on Tuesday.

According to the city, the newly constructed station was funded through the voter-approved 2019 Public Safety Bond and is intended to strengthen emergency response in the city.

Located next to the Upper East Side Police Regional Command Center, Fire Station No. 38 includes three emergency vehicle bays with exhaust ventilation, a dispatch office and IT server room, medical supply and equipment storage.

Additionally, the more than 9,000-square-foot facility includes decontamination and shower facilities, a dormitory and industrial laundry facility, a food preparation and service area with cold and dry food storage, a fitness area, and a lobby with public restrooms.

“Fire Station 38’s opening marks a significant milestone in our commitment to serve and protect our community,” Fire Chief Jonathan Killings said. “This state-of-the-art facility will enhance our response capabilities in far East El Paso and improve the overall safety for our community.”

He added, “This station brings in new resources to the city of El Paso, so as the city continues to grow, this is our response to that.”

The project has an estimated budget of $5.4 million for design and construction. The city also allocated an additional $1.2 million in Public Safety Bond funds for the acquisition of emergency vehicles to support operations at the new station.
