A former Arlington Bowie assistant coach was arrested on a warrant for injury to a child or an elderly or disabled individual stemming from an incident in 2024, multiple news outlets reported Tuesday.
Jonathan Cory Cruz was recently hired as head football coach at McNeil High School in Round Rock and has since been placed on administrative leave.
The reported incident allegedly took place while Cruz was head coach at Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis in 2024. He then served as offensive line coach and assistant athletic director of football operations at Arlington Bowie before his hiring at McNeil this past March.
According to reports, Arlington police specified that the incident was domestic in nature, “did not involve any students at any schools where he worked” and came after Child Protective Services contacted the department.
According to public jail records, the offense took place on Jan. 23, 2024. Cruz’s bond has been set at $25,000.
