If you’re like me then you have, at one time or another, tried to figure out if you could survive a zombie apocalypse. Maybe I watch too many movies and zombie shows, but when the thought crosses my mind, I’d like to think I could survive in a zombie apocalypse- depending on what kind of zombies; but I know that most likely, I’ll be dead by episode two of The Walking Dead.
Now, a new study is here to kind of prove me right!
The States Most Likely to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse
Researchers from CanadaCasino ranked all 50 U.S. states based on how well they’d survive a zombie outbreak using what they called “scientific” criteria. That included things like population density, hospitals, airports, military bases, and outdoor supply stores per 100,000 people.

The top survivors? Alaska came in at #1, thanks to its low population, fresh water, and endless isolation. New Jersey landed dead last; no surprise there, considering it’s the most crowded state in the country.
And Texas? We clocked in at no. 38 overall, well below our neighbors Oklahoma and Louisiana, who tied for 10th place. (Apparently, the zombies won’t mess with Cajun country.)
Why Texas Might Still Stand a Chance
Before anyone starts packing for Alaska, let’s remember a few things. Texas has:
One of the largest military presences in the country (hello, Fort Bliss and Fort Hood).More outdoor and hunting stores than you can count.Vast land that gives us room to spread out and stay safe. And plenty of Texans who already know how to handle themselves in an emergency- or at least on a long camping trip. What About El Paso for a Zombie Apocalypse?
El Paso alone might be one of the safest corners of the state- in my humble opinion. Between the Franklin Mountains, desert isolation, and locals who’d turn Chico’s into a fortress, we’d say the undead wouldn’t stand a chance in the Sun City; if they were Walking Dead zombies, not too sure about the 28 Days Later zombies.

So yeah, Texas may not be the zombie survival paradise we imagined, but we’ve got grit, guns, and barbecue, and dammit that has to count for something!
