EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Parents looking for a new way to keep kids active in the pool this summer can sign them up for a new Introduction to Artistic Swimming Program at the Ascarate Aquatic Center, running from May through August 2026.

The beginner-friendly program is open to youth ages 7 to 13 with intermediate to advanced swimming ability. Participants must be able to swim independently, tread water, and feel comfortable in deep water.

Sessions are scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 8 to 10 a.m.

Each session is expected to last about 90 minutes and will include dry land warm-ups, in-water warm-ups, skill development, choreography, team-based activities, and a review and cool-down period.

The program’s goal is to prepare participants with water safety skills, physical fitness, teamwork, creativity, and personal development.

The center says artistic swimming combines swimming, gymnastics, and dance, helping build confidence, endurance, flexibility, and coordination in a safe, collaborative environment.

According to program organizers, enrollment requires a pre-entry evaluation to ensure readiness, as candidates must be able to swim 25 to 50 yards, tread water for one to two minutes, and demonstrate comfort in deep water.

The pre-entry evaluation is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at 11:30 a.m. and Saturday, May 23, at 11:30 a.m. with a $5 fee per candidate.

After the evaluation, another $5 fee will apply per participant, per session.
