According to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Super Ants Arcade and Storage is planned for 8800 W. Sam Houston Pkwy. South in southwest Houston. The planned arcade project appears to be located in the same commercial complex that houses Budget Restaurant Supply and an event center along the West Sam Houston Parkway corridor.
The filing describes the project as a “conversion from grocery store to Arcade /warehouse” spanning more than 114,000 square feet. Construction is expected to begin in December and continue through December 2027, with an estimated cost of $6 million.
Chron reached out to the project’s listed contacts for additional details but did not receive a response before publication.
However, county records show the property’s owners first purchased the area in 2022. A Google Maps image from April 2022 shows the Food Town was still in operation at this time.
According to Houston Historic Retail, the grocer closed rather suddenly in March 2024, and a new grocer was expected to move in. However, the space appears to have remain empty since the closure.
The project comes as arcades and entertainment centers appear to be making a comeback across parts of the Houston region. In Humble, for example, another large-scale entertainment venue known as the Sports Ant Entertainment Center is already in the works. Construction began in early January and expected to be completed by September 30.
For now, it’s unclear exactly what Super Ants Arcade and Storage will look like once completed or what kinds of attractions it may include.
