EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Pasoans had a chance to help fight hunger this week as The Hospitals of Providence hosts its annual Healthy Over Hungry Citywide Cereal Contest to raise funds and donations for the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank.
The event was held on Thursday at Providence Children’s Hospital.
Organizers say the goal is to help stock the food bank for the summertime, when many families face added challenges getting consistent meals for children.
In the El Paso community, more than 185,000 low-income children rely on assisted meals or food from the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, and roughly one in three people faced food insecurity this past year, according to The Hospitals of Providence.
The Hospitals of Providence said it is focusing on access to healthy meals and breakfast options during the summer through its annual Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive, with the aim of ensuring no El Paso child goes hungry this summer.
