HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Harris County medical examiner’s office identified a man found hanging underneath the I-610 North Loop overpass in northeast Houston last week as James Norman Carnes.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to the scene with the Houston Fire Department at 7600 North Loop East last Thursday. According to HPD Homicide Division, 46-year-old Carney was found hanging underneath the middle of the overpass and had suffered burns to his body.
“The call originally came through from Union Pacific. They called in a brush fire to the Houston Fire Department, and when they arrived, they say what they saw – took care of the fire, and of course, unfortunately, the victim is deceased,” Lt. Khan with the Houston Police Department said.
Carney’s exact cause of death is still pending autopsy results by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
When asked if this could be a suicide, investigators said, “It seems very unlikely.”
HPD Homicide Division urges anyone with information on the case to contact them at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
