AUSTIN (KWTX) — After nearly four decades, law enforcement has identified the man they believe is responsible for the 1986 rape and murder of 16-year-old Deanna Ogg in Montgomery County.
Bobby Charles Taylor Sr., 60, was arrested in Mexico City on an unrelated felony charge and extradited to Texas late last month. Authorities said he was charged with capital murder on May 4 in connection with Ogg’s case.
According to investigators, Ogg was walking from her home in Porter to a convenience store on FM 1314 and Sorters Road to get a ride to a family gathering on the evening of Sept. 27, 1986. Hours later, the New Caney High School student’s body was found in a heavily wooded area off Old Houston Road in Conroe, about seven miles from her last known location. She had been sexually assaulted, beaten and stabbed.
The following month, a male subject was arrested in connection with Ogg’s case and convicted, law enforcement reported. He was later cleared after updated DNA testing proved his innocence. Investigators continued working to find Ogg’s killer, but her case remained cold.
Advanced DNA testing breaks case open
The Texas Rangers flagged Ogg’s case for a federal program that funds DNA testing in sexual assault cases in March 2020. Officials said evidence from Ogg’s case was sent out for advanced DNA testing and genealogy research through Bode Technology in 2021.
That testing led investigators to Taylor Sr. in 2024, the Texas Rangers reported. Further investigation revealed that Taylor Sr. was wanted on an unrelated felony charge and was hiding in Mexico.
The Texas Rangers began working with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI to find and arrest Taylor Sr. According to authorities, he turned himself in to FBI agents in Mexico City on April 24 and was brought back to Texas the next day.
Taylor Sr. remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail.
