BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – Kory Gill, a former Texas A&M doctor serving time in state prison after being sentenced for the sexual assault of a patient, is back in Brazos County this week to attend a hearing for a civil lawsuit.
Gill was sentenced to four years in prison in December for the 2021 incident.
He is eligible for parole in that case in December of 2027, but according to records obtained by KBTX, Gill now faces a civil suit in Brazos County.
A case summary shows that the plaintiff is seeking a jury trial and compensation for injuries and damages, which is why the 48-year-old was temporarily brought back to Brazos County this week.
Gill is the sole remaining defendant in the case, which once included Texas A&M Health, the A&M System, and the Health Science Center.
The trial, set for Monday, May 11th, has been reset after Gill claimed he was unaware of the trial and said he doesn’t have a lawyer.
Additional criminal charges are pending
Gill is still facing three additional felony counts of sexual assault and one misdemeanor indecent assault charge. Those are for incidents dating back to 2020 and 2021.
No word yet on when Gill will go to trial for those charges.
The December conviction was for an April 2021 incident, and the same jury that convicted Gill also sentenced him to four years in prison.
During the trial and punishment phase, the jury heard from three separate patients who said they were violated by Gill. The Texas Medical Board suspended his license in May 2022 following his indictment and arrest.
The College Station man is also facing a sexual assault charge for a November 2021 incident, along with two counts of sexual assault linked to a December 2020 case. There is an additional indecent assault misdemeanor charge also still pending from December 2021.
According to Texas A&M University, Gill specialized in primary care sports medicine on the medical staff of Texas A&M Athletics and served as an assistant professor of Family & Community Medicine at Texas A&M College of Medicine.
Gill was also the director of the Texas A&M Family Medicine Residency Sports Medicine Program and was affiliated with several other healthcare facilities in the Bryan-College Station area.
