Texas softball will enter next weekend’s NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 overall seed, which means the Longhorns won’t have to leave Austin until a possible third consecutive trip to the Women’s College World Series, which begins May 28 in Oklahoma City.
Texas won its first national title last season by beating Texas Tech in the championship series.
The No. 10 Longhorns (42-10), which won the SEC Tournament championship Saturday by beating Alabama 7-1, will host Wagner, Baylor and Wisconsin in the Austin Regional this weekend at McCombs Field. If Texas advances as expected from the double-elimination regional round, the Longhorns will serve as hosts of an Austin Super Regional series the weekend of May 21-24.
Texas, the No. 2 overall seed, will open the tournament Friday at 3 p.m. against Wagner, which is making its NCAA Tournament debut.
Alabama, which finished the regular season ranked No. 4 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, is the No. 1 overall seed despite Saturday’s loss to Texas.
