EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Barkerhaus Kennels and Wild West Working Dogs partnered together to host an ASL-friendly fundraiser and educational event on Saturday, May 9, from noon to 4 p.m.

The event took place at The Yard Beer Garden, located at 14261 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79938, and focused on working dogs, training advocacy, training demonstrations, and community outreach.

Organizers said the fundraiser was designed to be welcoming and inclusive, with ASL-friendly accommodations to help create a more accessible experience for attendees.

President of Wild West Working Dogs and Owner of Barkerhaus Kennels, Tiffany Schneider shared that the event was put together to honor the memory of their late club secretary, Allison Miles, who passed away in December.

“Allison Miles was our club secretary and she was the best person ever,” Schneider said. “She did all of our club fundraising, she did all of the marketing—she did all of the things to help the club stay the way it is. When we lost her we lost a jewel she was amazing.”

By creating this event as a way to honor Allison’s memory, the club plans to use the money raised to support their ongoing training efforts and community outreach efforts connected to Wild West Working Dogs.

While guests had the opportunity to learn from the club about the role of working dogs in everyday life, they were also able to shop amongst approximately 25 vendors that were present.

El Paso Animal Services was also on-site to provide free microchips for the first 50 attendees, while Vista Hills Animal Hospital offered its services for low-cost vaccines and other pet wellness services.
