AUSTIN (KXAN) — After a series loss to unranked Tennessee, Texas baseball fell two spots in the latest D1Baseball.com rankings released Monday.

The Longhorns dropped to No. 6 in the country after a 2-2 week, going 1-2 in Knoxville against Tennessee, allowing Southeastern Conference foes Georgia and Auburn to leapfrog them in the rankings.

Texas lost the first two games of the series to the Volunteers, but picked up a win in the finale Sunday behind a 6-RBI day from first baseman Casey Borba. He crushed two home runs, including a grand slam, to help the Longhorns salvage the series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

In D1Baseball.com’s latest NCAA Tournament projections, the outlet thinks the Longhorns should have a high enough seed to host both regionals and super regionals if they advance. The projections don’t include this past weekend’s results, but the outlet slotted Texas as the No. 4 overall seed, hosting 30th-seeded Miami (Florida), Western Carolina and Tarleton State in a regional. The Texans scored their biggest win in program history over the Longhorns 6-1 in Austin on March 17. Still, they’ll have to win the Western Athletic Conference tournament to clinch an automatic bid to a regional.

Those are simply projections and aren’t final. The NCAA baseball selection committee will announce the official field at 11 a.m. CT on Memorial Day (May 25).

UCLA remained the top team with a 46-5 overall record, followed by North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Auburn. After the Longhorns, Oregon State sits at No. 7, followed by Southern Miss, West Virginia and Texas A&M to round out the top 10. The Aggies dropped one spot after losing a series to Ole Miss, who rose from No. 20 to No. 15 with the wins.

Coastal Carolina lost a Sun Belt Conference series at home to Old Dominion, and the Chanticleers had the bottom fall out of their ranking. They dropped 12 spots from No. 8 to No. 20. Kansas took a big tumble in the poll, falling seven spots to No. 14 after getting swept by West Virginia.

Texas (37-12, 16-10 SEC) hosts Missouri in the final series of the regular season beginning Thursday. The Longhorns are tied for second in the conference with Texas A&M, and Missouri is the worst team in the league at 6-21. Georgia clinched the SEC regular season championship after sweeping Louisiana State, and the Bulldogs head into the final weekend with a 21-6 record.

The SEC Tournament is set for May 19-24 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama. Barring a disaster against the Tigers, Texas should get a two-round bye in the tournament and start play in the quarterfinals either May 21 or May 22.
