The Lions bring last year’s disappointment into the region final showdown with the Squaws.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — #2 Santa Gertrudis Academy was sent home earlier than expected last season, something they haven’t forgotten despite being almost a full year later.
The Lions were defeated 2-1 by Jourdanton in a one-game playoff in the region final. It’s a Squaws program they’ll see this week again in the fourth round. The SGA seniors say they’re ready for the rematch and to punch their first ticket to state in three years.
“I would really want to beat them this year,” said senior catcher K’Lee Bazan. “I think this year our chemistry is way better and it definitely puts some like fire in us and hopefully we get through it.
“We really want to set the tone with this round and make it through to state again,” said senior pitcher D’Andra Fernandez.
SGA and Jourdanton will face off in a three-game series this time, which will be heald at Beeville Jones. Game 1 of the series is set for Thursday at 6 PM with Game 2 set for Friday at 5 PM. If needed, Game 3 would follow right after.
