EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County law enforcement officers and attorneys gathered on Friday for an intensive training session focused on handling juvenile cases.

In collaboration with the Juvenile Probation Department, the county hosted its annual Juvenile Law CLE, providing local enforcement officers and attorneys with the latest legal updates and strategies for crimes and cases involving minors.

El Paso County Attorney’s Office said the county holds the training annually to maintain the highest standards of legal practice and public safety. The effort is intended to improve outcomes for youth and families navigating the justice system.

Topics covered in the training session include juvenile probation, adult certification, determinate sentencing, sex offender registration, and detention and challenge programs.

Speaking to KFOX14/CBS4 on Friday, April Galvan, assistant county attorney, said the event aimed to provide information to the public as the laws change.

“We want to be able to share as much information as possible, to be collaborative. Juvenile law, for the most part, is confidential, but if we have that same information spread across agencies. Providing that resource to law enforcement, and we’re all working together for the safety of the community, I think that’s the benefit of these courses,” Galvan said.
