CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — In a 7–2 vote, the Corpus Christi City Council approved changes to the city’s drought restriction guidelines that will slightly loosen water-use rules for residents during a water emergency.
The decision comes after recent rainfall improved local water conditions and pushed back the expected start date for a “Level One Water Emergency.”
Under the updated rules, restrictions on Corpus Christi residents will be eased while officials continue monitoring water supply levels and drought conditions across the region.
The newly approved changes include raising the city’s curtailment baseline, which determines water reduction requirements, and once again allowing residents to wash cars and boats with non-potable water under the revised guidelines.
City officials say the adjustments are designed to provide residents with more flexibility while still encouraging responsible water conservation practices.
