Post‑college NFL careers can take unpredictable turns. Heisman winners flame out, undrafted free agents become All‑Pros, and sometimes a promising rookie steps away before the journey even begins. For one former Texas A&M standout, that moment arrived far sooner than anyone expected.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Miami Dolphins placed running back Le’Veon Moss on the reserve/retired list, less than a month after signing him as an undrafted free agent. The move comes as a surprise, especially after Moss was viewed as a potential offseason sleeper thanks to his blend of speed, vision, and power. Traits that made him one of the SEC’s most intriguing backs when healthy.
If not for his injury history, Moss likely would have been a Day 3 draft pick rather than a UDFA signing. And that same health history may be a key factor in his decision to step away. The physical toll of the position, combined with Moss’ past setbacks, likely played a role in choosing retirement before his first NFL training camp.
Does this mean Moss is done for good? Not necessarily. We’ve seen multiple players retire early, regroup, and return to carve out meaningful careers. Until Moss speaks publicly about his decision, anything beyond today’s transaction is speculation.
For now, all we can do is wish him well as he takes his next steps whether that’s away from football for good or simply a pause before a future comeback.
