LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – As expected, summer temperatures have arrived in west Texas.
Afternoon highs, on this Wednesday, have been in the 90s from the Panhandle south to the Permian Basin.

More heat on the way for the remainder of the week and into the weekend. Daytime temperatures will approach and possibly hit the 100-degree mark on Friday and Saturday on the South Plains.
Continued dry conditions will combine with the heat and gusty winds to increase fire danger for the area on into the weekend.
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect Thursday for the northwest region.
While winds have been close to 30 mph on Wednesday, they will likely be higher in gusts Thursday and again on Friday.
Increased wind, low humidity and hot temperatures will increase fire danger for the region Thursday and again on Friday.
Even with the heat, wind and fire danger, there is a slim chance of a few showers in northern areas Wednesday night. Isolated showers and maybe a storm or two will be possible over the central and northern South Plains on Thursday. If storms can develop, they have the potential to produce strong downburst winds.
The heat and limited rain chances will continue through Friday.
