An iconic Central Texas honky-tonk is making an unexpected comeback two years after shuttering. Giddy Ups in Austin is planning to reopen less than 2 miles from its shuttered stomping grounds.
The construction filing lists Roy Antognini as one of the new owners of the new-and-improved version of Giddy Ups. Reports by the Austin Business Journal indicate that Antognini was friends with the bar’s original owner, Nancy Morgan, and swooped in to save the business. According to ABJ, its new owners include Antognini, Carissa Bunker and Anna Bosworth.
Renovations for the revitalized bar will cost approximately $70,000, according to the TDLR. Antognini told ABJ he estimates that the revived Giddy Ups could be open by the beginning of June. MySA reached out to Antognini for comment.
Construction on the space is expected to begin May 15 with a completion date of May 31. However, TDLR filings are subject to change at any time without notice.
