Stonebriar Centre is continuing its new Saturday evening curfew policy for minors after mall officials say the first weekend of enforcement proved effective.
The temporary policy, known as the “Parental Guidance Required” program, was introduced on May 9 in response to what the mall described as disruptive and unsupervised gatherings involving youth visitors.
According to a spokesperson for the mall, the program will remain in effect again this weekend after a successful rollout during its first implementation.
How The Policy Works
Under the guidelines, guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older on Saturdays beginning at 3 p.m. and continuing through closing. One adult may accompany up to four minors but must stay with the group throughout the visit.
Visitors who appear to be underage are asked to provide valid identification at mall entrances. Those unable to verify their age must remain with a supervising adult while inside the shopping center.
Mall officials say trained public safety officers are stationed at entrances to enforce the rules.
Mall Says Policy Is Precautionary
A spokesperson previously told Local Profile the curfew was introduced “out of an abundance of caution” and described the effort as temporary.
The mall has not announced how long the program will remain in place, but officials say the goal is to maintain a safer and calmer environment for shoppers, employees and tenants during peak weekend hours.
The new rules mark one of the more visible crowd-control measures introduced at a North Texas shopping center in recent years as malls across the country continue adapting to changing traffic patterns and security concerns.
