One of Houston’s hottest burger joints has officially landed in The Heights. After months of teasing a new location, Burger-chan is now open at 506 Yale St. That’s the space formerly home to Be More Pacific, the popular Filipino restaurant from Austin that closed in March.
Burger-chan—a name combining “burger” and the Japanese diminutive honorific expressing affection—draws inspiration from Asian flavors with burgers, sandwiches and hot dogs. The new location serves the same menu, the Houston Chronicle reported. However, the Heights location features a full bar and cocktail program made up of yuzu-flavored, sake-based drinks and Japanese beers.
Burger-chan first debuted in 2016 in Greenway Plaza’s underground food court. While the COVID-19 pandemic forced a closure at the end of 2020, the restaurant returned two years later, debuting its “Burger-chan 2.0” outpost in the Galleria at 5353 W Alabama St.
It was this past January, going into its tenth year in business, that Burger-chan’s team dropped hints that a new spot was on the way. After polling its Foodie followers on social media, they revealed last month that the new restaurant would be opening in The Heights. According to the Houston Chronicle, new co-owner Ryan Stewart said their team is already planning to open a third location.
