Texas A&M‘s backs were against the wall after the 18-11 loss in the series opener, but the Aggies bounced back to take Game 2 with an 11-9 win over Mississippi State on Friday night.

The success at the plate was led by an outstanding performance at the plate from Caden Sorrell, who went 3-of-5 with six RBIs, including a two-run home run. He was just a single shy of hitting for the cycle against the Bulldogs’ pitching staff, which ranked third in team ERA in the SEC entering the weekend.

Overall, it was another successful night for the Aggie lineup, even with Nico Partida still missing from the lineup due to injury. Gavin Grahovac recorded a solo homer and Blake Binderup secured a three-run home run, among the 15 hits that Texas A&M recorded in the win against Mississippi State.

It wasn’t the team’s best performance of the season, but the solid outing from the offense got the job done to force a rubber match on Saturday.

While the Aggie hitters were red hot, it was another night of struggles on the mound for the pitching staff. With Aiden Sims absent due to tightness, Weston Moss got the start in Game 2. He recorded four strikeouts but allowed four hits and three earned runs across two innings. Shane Sdao replaced Moss and allowed six hits and five earned runs, while striking out three in four innings pitched.

Clayton Freshcorn provided five strikeouts and allowed just two hits to close out the game and send the fans at Olsen Field home happy, but the Aggies must find an answer for the lack of consistency on the bump moving forward.

Next up, Texas A&M returns to Blue Bell Park tomorrow with an opportunity to take the series over Mississippi State. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and the contest will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
