SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama is known for his stature and skill on the basketball court, but the San Antonio Public Library is highlighting one of the Spurs star’s other special interests: being a book worm.
In a post on Instagram Thursday, the library unveiled its “Read like Wemby” display, which is dedicated to Wembanyama and his love of literature — specifically science fiction. The display at the Central Library location features several books by Robert Jordan, a “Dune” graphic novel, “The Mime Order” by Samantha Shannon and “The World We Make” by N.K. Jemisin.
On the way to NBA games, Wembanyama is often spotted with a book in hand. He even had a viral exchange last year with Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić on the subject of his reading habits, with Wembanyama saying he reads before every game and Jokić responding with a face palm.
One of the San Antonio forward’s recent reads includes the over 1,000-page “Alchemised” by SenLinYu, according to the San Antonio Express-News. The book orginally began as a fanfiction called “Manacled,” which was based on a romance between “Harry Potter” characters Draco Malfoy and Hermoine Granger, before being adapted into its current state.
The San Antonio Public Library has a list on Libby dedicated to the Wemby-inspired reading list featuring a collection of physical books and audiobooks, available here.
