TEXAS (KTAL/KMSS) —  One of the 10 most wanted sex offenders in the state of Texas was recently taken into custody in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

On May 7, Kit Edward Lulow was turned over to the Texas Rangers at the Progreso Port of Entry, said DPS on Friday.

Lulow was wanted on a warrant out of Cass County for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.

He was also wanted on federal warrants for possession of child pornography and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to DPS, in 2008, Lulow was convicted in Oregon of rape, sexual abuse, and sodomy following incidents with a 13-year-old girl.

Following a more than six-year prison sentence for the crimes, DPS says Lulow was arrested multiple times in Oregon for violating his parole.

According to DPS, in February of this year, Lulow was taken into custody in Marion County, Texas, for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of child pornography. He bonded out of jail soon after and fled the country to Mexico.

DPS says special agents from their Criminal Investigations Division in Texarkana assisted in finding where Lulow was hiding in Mexico.
